The Worst Thing He’s Ever Done

“Ashley? Is there a Ashley Hwang here?” Kimberly asked the assembled waiting room for Millstein Nickerson Family Dental. At the very least, it should be easy to spot a Hwang here in this cow town, Kimberly thought. Though she quickly corrected herself. Her fiancé had taken her home for July 4th weekend to his hometown, and she learned the difference between the small city/college town she lived in, and a true cow town. She had to it, this city was somewhat more diverse than she had thought when she moved here.

It wasn’t anything like her hometown back east in Jersey, and she wasn’t ever going to get used to the idea that “heading into the city” meant Omaha or Des Moines, or the idea that Kansas City was some sort of unobtainable, utopian megalopolis. But she was trying to convince herself that she wasn’t miserable here. She had, after all, chosen with her own free will to move here. She had looked at all the places that would honor her out-of-state Dental Hygienist license, and ran the numbers. This city was the easiest place to buy a house, and if she got a little bit lucky, she might even be able to buy a second house and rent it to students. Kimberly didn’t tend to dream towards flights of fancy. She knew that on some level, she had her eyes set on a life of mediocrity, being a landlady and a dental hygienist, but it’d be something that she built herself without relying on anyone else, least of all her parents back east.

“Ashley Hwang, going once, going twice—” she said, trying to keep her tone jovial. A few people looked around. No one spoke up, but the door behind her opened.

“Sorry, sorry, needed to use the little girl’s room,” Kimberly turned around to meet the voice. She barely kept her jaw from dropping. Ashley Hwang was a knock-out. Ashley Hwang was incongruously attractive. Girls who looked like her didn’t live in places like this. If they started here, they moved away quickly to try their shot at fame and fortune. There was a difference in kind, not just in magnitude. It wasn’t like this college town had some renowned fashion design program. Neurochemistry, agricultural science, the entire medical school, sure. The little dental practice she worked at had world-class scientists and doctors as clients, but this was the first supermodel client they had. She didn’t really consider herself to have any bisexual urges, but at least 25 years of living in a media environment dedicated to male gaze meant she knew that Ashley was a looker.

Tall, leggy, skinny, but not so skinny that she didn’t have some curves to her, perfect blemish-free skin, long silky lustrous black hair, perfectly symmetrical face; Kimberly would have gladly traded for just one or two of her qualities. Kimberly knew that she was probably above average in looks, but only just. And she never ever quite trusted that. She had spent a long, unhappy childhood surrounded by her mom, her aunts, her grandmothers, all of whom looked decent enough in photos when they were 23, but invariably were severe, tired-looking women with frown lines by the time they were 32. Kimberly was hanging onto her youthful glory with her fingertips at 26.

Kimberly’s eyes might have bugged out of her skull when she first saw her client, but she kept it to just that, and led her back. She made her standard small talk with clients. When she first moved here, Kimberly was a little off-put by how chatty and friendly everyone was. She ed a high school foreign exchange student saying that Americans were incessant chatterboxes compared to his native Dutchland, or wherever he was from. If he had gone further in, into the Heartland, he would have been driven insane, she was pretty sure. Her bosses said that she needed to work on this part of the job. People wanted their service employees to have a friendly smile, they said. She never totally got it. How much conversation could you really have in a dental chair? She was busy sticking things into their gums! Since she only saw each client twice a year at best, she didn’t really have regulars. Most clients mostly blurred together into mostly forgettable chit-chat, in between her exhortations for them to floss at least daily. She still ired Mr. Pendergast, to the point that she ed his name, who had said simply, “Oh, we don’t need to talk during this,” and remained silent throughout the rest of his session.

“Okay, it says here that this is your first time with us today. I think Dr. Millstein will be coming soon. But, according to this, your last cleaning was six months ago, so it’s not like we’re behind schedule for you.”

“Yes, I was such a dorkus-malorkus, when I scheduled my last appointment at my last dentist, I didn’t know I was going to be moving then. Well, I didn’t know that I was going to be moving now when it was my appointment. When I made my last appointment with them, I didn’t know then what I know now, so I scheduled my appointment with them to be yesterday, even though I’m now like, a thousand miles away from there because I didn’t know then that I’d be here and not there. Does that make sense?” Ashley rambled.

“Yeah, of course. I’m just glad that your dental health remains such a high priority,” Kimberly tried not to compare herself to Ashley. Some of it was purely genetic. The girl couldn’t have decided to be 5′10 and Korean, with legs that went all the way to the floor. But Ashley did decide to wear that short of a skirt to her dentist’s appointment. Every single woman who saw Ashley today would feel self-conscious about her legs; Kim sure did. If she had one advantage above a straight man when it came to gawking at a hot girl, it was that she could appreciate the hard work that went into it. A guy looked at Ashley and saw a pretty face. Kim could see the deliberate contours in her make-up, each and every little trick that Ashley used to make herself look even hotter. A guy might appreciate Ashley’s pretty hair, but did they really understand the amount of time and effort it took to make it look that luscious at that length? Ashley might have been naturally skinny, not prone to putting on weight, but no one kept that svelte without putting in their time to the gym and watching with exacting measure what they ate. Kim wondered how early in the morning Ashley would get up to do her beauty routine.

“Oh, of course, I don’t want to risk my smile!” Ashley giggled and smiled up at Kim, who couldn’t help but smile back. Ashley had an infectious energy to her. Kim could clearly tell the difference between someone who was adequate about brushing and flossing, and someone who flossed religiously. Ashley’s gumline was pristine. Even her gumline was a tribute to the amount of hours this girl spent perfecting her appearance. Kim knew from experience that she could clean up pretty well. She and her fiance, Noah, had been doing the wedding circuit this past summer. She wasn’t ugly, she wasn’t below average even. But most days, she didn’t want to put in that work. Most days, the face looking back in the mirror was just tired.

She asked Ashley a few standard questions; was she experiencing any pain in or around her mouth? Any issue with her jaw? Any concerns about flossing? She complimented Ashley on her obviously excellent dental routine, which caused Ashley to beam her million dollar smile. Kim made some bad joke about how Dr. Millstien would be there any second, he couldn’t resist a girl with a pretty gumline.

That caused Ashley to burst into laughter. Not just the little giggles that seemed to punctuate every other sentence with her, but a big belly laugh. “Oh, you’re funny!” Ashley said as she calmed down, “Listen, I literally just moved here, like, last Thursday, for a job that doesn’t start until next week, and I don’t know anyone, anyone, in town, so I’m like, just asking people who seem cool. Would you like to hang out tomorrow night? Just like a friend’s thing. I don’t know any bars either, so I don’t know where the cool place to get a drink is. Please? Pretty please?”

* * *

“I think I got hit on at work today,” Kimberly said as she gathered up the dishes. Noah had cooked today.

“Doesn’t that happen pretty much every day?” he barely looked away from the TV.

“Yeah, but usually it’s like, old men, or at least middle-aged men who wish they weren’t married anymore. Not from, well, a really hot chick.” That got Noah’s attention away from the basketball game. “Yeah, I know. We had a new client. Very bubbly, very sweet girl, and she asked me if I wanted to go grab a drink with her tomorrow.”

“And she’s hot?”

“Yeah! Like she wasn’t ‘regular person’ hot, she was like ‘cover of a magazine’ hot,” Kimberly said, “Said she had just moved to town and didn’t know anyone, so she’s trying to make friends. If I could show her a cool bar or something.”

“Aww, that’s sweet, you made a friend,”

“Okay, so you won’t mind if tomorrow night, I don’t come over?” She had been staying over at his place at least three nights a week ever since he popped the question.

“Babe, we’re engaged. Not ed at the hip. You want to hang out and make a new friend or two, I’m not some ogre. Go have fun. I just bought a new video game, anyways, so I can, y’know, play that. It’s fine.”

Kimberly wasn’t sure she liked the new changes in Noah. The whole zen-master chill thing that he had going on, was a little grating. She had known at the start of their relationship that he was smarter than she was. He had done his undergrad at a big-name private school of the East Coast, and moved back here for his grad school, both to be closer to his family and to work with one specific professor at the forefront of his specific field of neuropharmacology. She had an associate’s degree from a community college. That was fine. She knew she was more ambitious, and more assertive than he was. He would sit there and take what you threw at him. It was her who convinced him to drop out of his Ph.D program ABD after his advisor said he probably wouldn’t get his degree for another two or three years. Now, he had a job at a local pharmaceutical start-up, that paid him way more, and that meant he was making more money than she was. She wasn’t sure if it was the fact that he was only working forty or fifty hours a week instead of seventy, or that he now got see the sun, or that he had taken up running and going to the gym again, or that he no longer was working with a chemical that seemed to cause his skin to break out, or all those things, but he was now better looking than she was. Soft blue eyes, strong cheekbones and jawline. His beard was growing in and he was growing his hair out, this great big wild mane of brown hair, which suited his face. With the lack of stress, it seemed like he was actually regressing in age; the brooding academic workaholic she met wouldn’t have spent the night playing video games. He no longer felt like a grumpy old man trapped in a young man’s body. Now that he was happier than her, her alarm systems were blazing. He was going to dump her; she knew it. She still knew it even after he dropped to one knee and asked her to marry him. Happiness was always what you felt before the knives camt out. He’d either realize that he was a catch, good-looking, good money, smart man, and realize he could do better, or he’d resent her for her suggestion of dropping out before he got to put a Dr. in front of his name. Six of one, half a dozen of the other.

“Just don’t take her to that one place, the Raven’s… whatever, that you like.”

“What’s wrong with the Raven’s Nest?”

“It’s always full of sad, pretentious middle-aged people; take her to the Highball, or, better, The Zoo. Take her to The Zoo, they’ve almost always got live music, and it’s not too filled with students like Horace’s and not too depressing like your Nest.”

Avoiding students was a high priority for her. Most of the town’s nightlife was centered around the university students. “What if I want pretentious and depressing?”

“If you want to go to the Nest, go to the Nest,” he said, throwing his hands back, “If you want to make a friend, I say go to The Zoo.”

Normally, telling her to do something was a good guarantee that she wouldn’t do something, but Kimberly wasn’t so headstrong that she couldn’t see that Noah had a point. Ashley, from their little interaction, probably wasn’t looking for the vibe that the Nest had.

“Do you think it’s a little weird that she asked me out on a friend date?” she said, changing the subject.

“Nah, not really,” he responded, “I mean, it’s direct, ‘hey I wanna be friends with you’, but that’s not such a bad thing. It kinda reminds of a story I heard on public radio once, guy had super bad social anxiety, and he came up with a strategy to get over it, which was once per day, he’d go up to a stranger and ask for a favor. Directions, or a stick of gum, and slowly built up from there. He realized that the worst thing that could happen to him was that they said no, and that wasn’t so bad.”

She smiled, “Man, if this chick has social anxiety, we should all just pack it up. I would think that a girl looking like that is playing social interactions on easy mode. “

“She’s that hot?”

“Yeah, she’s that hot, and I say that as a straight gal with a fiancé. I should’ve taken a picture of Ashley, just so you could get an idea of her.” She noticed her boyfriend’s smile dropped for a second when she mentioned the name, “What was that?”

“Nothing, sorry, I dated a girl with that name way back when, y’know, back in Boston and it didn’t end well. Everyone went a little nuts. Some sort of post-traumatic thing when I hear that name.”

“Oh, did you go to school in Boston? BU maybe? Boston College?” It was a little annoying when he tried to act humble about his education. It’d be easier if he just said Harvard when he meant Harvard.

He wandered off, back to his basketball game. Ashley was a pretty common name, and well, her Ashley didn’t exactly seem like the Ivy League type.

* * *

“Holy crap, girl,” Kimberly said to herself. She already thought that Ashley was super hot and that was from just seeing Ashley going to the dentist. Seeing Ashley when she wanted to look good… Honestly, it wasn’t fair. Kimberly was wearing her white jeans that she liked the fit of, and a nice neutral-tone sweater. Perfectly acceptable stuff for meeting a friend for a drink after work. Ashley was dressed for a night on the town, in a blue babydoll dress, and high heels. Was that a Chanel bag? Ashley had to have spent at least several hours getting her hair and make-up ready.

“Wow, you look great,” Kimberly said, trying to keep her smile on. Was this just normal for Ashley? Did she ever not look like an Instagram photo? People were stopping and gawking on the way past; again, normal people just didn’t look like this.

“Kimmy, girl, you look so cute!” Ashley enthused in her breathy bell of a voice. Kimberly had to bite her tongue to keep from snarling. She could stomach Kim. Kimmy was a step too far. Most people didn’t make that mistake twice, after she ripped them a new one. But Ashley seemed like such a pure little kitten that it didn’t feel right to try to verbally incinerate her.

“Actually, it’s Kimberly. I don’t go by Kimmy.”

“Oh, no worries,” Ashley said, pawing her in the arm. Ashley was awfully touchy-feely. “This is a cute little bar, Kimberly. Will you see if they’ll make me an apple martini? I’ll grab us a table.”

There was a slight line at the bar as the live band did their warm-ups. Kimberly was stealing glances at the table where Ashley had set up. There was a guy there, it looked like he was trying to get Ashley’s attention. She turned back to the bar, and put the order in. Ashley was saying something to the guy, with the most stern expression on her face that Kimberly had seen. Kimberly looked away; Noah had sent her a text wishing her luck on her “playdate”. Asshole. Maybe she wanted to make some new friends. Maybe her existing friends had gotten on her nerves. That tended to happen. Her friendships tended to fray apart after not too long.

A moment later, the appletini and her Old Fashioned were up. As she was going to the table, the would-be suitor was heading the opposite direction. He looked upset. “Fucking bitch,” he mumbled to himself. Of course, the random skeevy dickhead who hit on the hottest girl in the bar not even five minutes after she entered had thin skin. Of course, from what she had seen of Ashley, she doubted that Ashley really gave him what he deserved. She probably said “no thank you” in the same cheerful tone that she had said everything in, and this guy couldn’t handle that.

“Here you go, one appletini,” Kimberly said.

“Thanks!” Ashley said in the same high-pitched twinkle of her voice, “I’m not so sure about this band.”

“Eh, they’re not so bad for a cover band,” Kimberly said, taking a sip of her own drink.

“But the music they’re playing is so sad and angry. I was kind of hoping for something to dance to,” Ashley said.

“It’s Nirvana, I mean, it’s a good song.”

“It’s really angry music,” Ashley insisted, “If I want to feel sad, I usually put on Olivia Rodrigo. Normally, I’d prefer something like Katy Perry or Charli XCX.”

The Zoo had many positive qualities, one of which is that it generally avoided playing Top 40 radio pop. Kimberly was getting the distinct impression that this would be the last friend-date that she had with Ashley. That was fine, this was wild, and she felt a little proud of herself for stretching her wings and trying something new, even if it wasn’t the start of a brand-new beautiful friendship. It was okay to try something out and realize that the other person had a different vibe. “Y’know, I realized, you never said where you moved from.”

“L.A, and San Diego. I kind of bounced back between those two for a while.”

“Kind of a trip to go from that to being 1200 some miles to the nearest beach, huh?”

“Oh, yeah, I mean, I love the beach,” Ashley said, gesturing with her hands to emphasize her love, “But this will be really good for my life plans, and besides, just because you aren’t at the beach doesn’t mean you can’t wear a bikini!”

“Life plans?” Kim decided to let the bikini comment slip by her, “Where do you work at?”

“Oh, right, I can’t believe I didn’t say this already. I’m going to be a researcher for Kay-Langston Pharmaceuticals, starting next week.”

Kimberly looked at her askance. There was a strip club on 15th Street; there were plenty of hair salons around. Heck, finding out she was a physical therapist for the college football team., or that she was doing the social media for one of the new NIL collectives... Any or all of those would make more sense than Ashley working for a cutting-edge medical start-up. “My boyfriend… my fiancé, he works there.”

“You have a boyfriend?” Ashley said, nose upturned.

“Fiancé, actually. He popped the question, let’s see, five weeks ago?” Kimberly said as she fumbled out her phone, “I’ve got a photo of the proposal somewhere. Maybe you’ve met him as part of the interviews? Noah, Noah Burr.”

It didn’t take much for her to find the photo on her Facebook wall. She couldn’t help but notice that none of her family had liked it. Mom and dad were blocked of course, but her little sister hadn’t liked it; neither had the cousin or aunt to whom she still talked . She waved the phone towards the Korean hottie.

Ashley snatched the phone out of her hand, much more aggressively than anything she had done before. She smiled a big loopy smile at the phone, staring at it deeply. Her lips started to part, and her tongue lolled out of her mouth. Ashley began to tense, and shake. She started to whimper and pant like a dog.

“What the fuck?” Kimberly said, snatching her phone back. Whatever was happening this wasn’t normal.

Ashley said something in a dreamy far-off voice. Kimberly didn’t hear her, she was too busy putting her phone back in her purse, and getting ready to leave. She didn’t notice Ashley taking a few small items out of her purse. First, a tube of lipstick that she quickly applied. The shade of lipstick appeared to be a funky lime green, but it left nothing visible on Ashley’s lips.

“I don’t know what that was, but that was not cool,” Kimberly said, “I think this is over and I don’t think we shoul—” Ashley interrupted her by giving her a big fat kiss on the lips. Immediately, the muscles in Kimberly’s face began to twitch. Before Kimberly could object, Ashley sprayed her with some sort of small perfume bottle directly at Kimberly’s nose. “What the fuck,” Kimberly said quietly, unable to raise her voice. She immediately pushed Ashley away and made for the door. She still couldn’t raise her voice by the time she made it back to her car and out of the parking garage.

“Phase one completed,” Ashley said, mostly to herself, with a satisfied smile.

* * *

“What the fuck?!” Kimberly screamed as her voice came back to her on the way back to Noah’s place. He lived closer to downtown and she didn’t want to be alone now. Her face still twitched, each one meriting its own “what the fuck?!” Ashley had assaulted her. Sprayed something up her nose. Her heart couldn’t stop racing. She blew past two red lights. It was late on a work night; it wasn’t like there was traffic.

She sneezed. That bitch sprayed her with something. Holy shit, holy shit. She sneezed again. And suddenly there was life underneath her jeans. Holy shit! It was like someone just flipped a switch and her panties got wet. She still had the panic and the stress to hold on to, to focus her. But there was a heat rising in her, a pressure building. She needed to get fucked. Why on earth was that true? It was true, though. She needed to get fucked. There were electrical storms going on underneath her pants.

Her parking job at Noah’s left something to be desired. She probably dinged up her suspension. Whatever, she needed to not be alone right now. The world was a scary place, and also she needed someone to lower her panties and make her a quivering mess.

“Well, that didn’t take long,” Noah said, “Did you bail after just one—what are you doing?” She thought it was pretty clear. She had shucked off her sweater, and was working her jeans down her legs. In the time it took to get from the bar to here, she had gone from freaking out to out-of-her-mind horny.

“Dick, please,” she moaned, “Give me your cock, please, please, I want it.” Noah gawked at his fiancee, who was prettier than she let on, trying to make sense of it all. It wasn’t like they had a frigid sex life, but this was a new one. She had never come home and just begged for his dick. She was usually a bit more coy, a bit more dominant. She fell to his knees, and tried to get her hands up his basketball shorts. He paused the Playstation; he could continue playing MLB 2024 some other time.

He was already stiffening from the display, and when she found his cock and pulled down his shorts, she rubbed it through his boxers. “Babe, what’s going on?” He said. He kept looking around, like there was something else besides the horny, half-naked girl in his living room. Like there was something else he would see and it would make it make sense for him. It didn’t make sense for her, either. She just knew she needed him to fuck her. Why was he not fucking her right there and then? She had made herself quite clear.

“I want this, Daddy, please give it to me. Just stick it in. I’m so fucking wet, so fucking hot. Please, please, Daddy, don’t tease me. Let me ride it, please. I’ll make you feel so good, let me ride it.” Every time before tonight, sex with Kim was like a tennis match. She served as good as she got, but he had to be on his game. He had to be flirty and charming, it was part of the act. This wasn’t that, this was just pure animalistic need.

“Daddy, yes!” she said, pulling down his boxers, and getting on top of him. She had a lot of questions rattling around in her brain, but this loomed larger than any of them. She could get answers from him tomorrow. She needed this now.

She guided himself in, and nearly collapsed on top of him. It felt so good. She had never felt this good before. Every nerve, every muscle was charged. Every last bit of her needing him inside of her.

“Oh, fuck, fuck, Noah, you feel so good,” she moaned. She curled on to him, possessively, as he fucked up into her. She stared directly at him, eye to eye, smiling deliriously. She felt so good, so fulfilled at that moment. She started kissing him indiscriminately. “Harder, please, fuck me harder,” she peppered in between worshipping his beautiful face.

Noah picked her up and set her on the couch. She giggled and whooped. Noah never really threw her around, but she suddenly realized she liked the sensation of him moving her around like that without saying anything. “Yeah, fuck your slut,” she groaned, enjoying feeling his weight on top of her. She felt so good, so happy, so possessed. The Zoo felt like a million miles away; she was busy getting her brains fucked out. She had lost count of how many times she came. Definitely once up front when he first entered. Then it started to get hazy. It felt like one long giant orgasm, she decided. There were at least six separate mini-peaks though, before Noah nutted.

“Let me get some water real quick, I’ll be right back,” he said, panting.

“Hurry!” she said, luxuriating on the couch. As much fun as it was, she still wasn’t sated. Her skin still felt electric. The urgent pulsing need in her pussy was still flashing red.

“God, babe, you look fucking amazing,” Noah said, with two bottles of water in his hands. He was staring at her boobs, Kim realized, so she shook and wiggled and gave him a show. Round 2 couldn’t come quickly enough.

Nor did rounds three or four.

“Call in sick tomorrow, okay?” Kim said, “Just stay here, and we can, y’know, I can get on my knees and blow you, okay? I haven’t done that for you yet, right? I just wanna keep fucking you,” It was nearly 3:30 in the morning.

“I just need to catch my breath, and, wooo, rest for a minute,” Noah moaned, “I am… I am… I am definitely going to call in tomorrow. What the hell has gotten into you?”

“I got horny,” Kim giggled, very un-Kim-like, “I am still horny. It was a weird night.” Noah got up and turned off the living room lights. Round five was much slower than the others. Noah begged off and fell asleep before round six could really get going. She draped herself over him, and guided his fingers onto her pussy. He didn’t even have to finger her, she just liked having him there.

They woke up to their phone alarms. She was still fucking horny, though it was now more of a constant dull roar rather than a train-whistle of need. She quickly emailed her supervisor that she had a family thing come up, and ensured that Noah was doing the same.

She had a text from Ashley. ur bf still looks so cute! i hope u enjoyed last night Kimmy! I cant wait 2 see him!!!
