Quite a bit of time must have ed, Julia thought, as she rested with her head face-down into her lounger. She was in a wonderful state of contentment, but she wasn’t sure how much longer she could go on lounging. Her stomach was starting to ache— quite a bit of time must have ed since lunch, if she was feeling this hungry.

In this state of comfort, and ease, the solution to her current problem came to her easily.

Julia turned her face to the side, so her voice would be audible, but she kept her eyes closed.

“Mom,” she said, eyes still closed. “When we were having lunch earlier, I saw there were some leftovers in the fridge...”

Ava had been lounging a few lounger’s down, thinking of nothing but Lexi as she felt the sun shining down on her. As soon as Julia spoke, though, her mind was on the topic her daughter had raised. Part of it was feeling the need to keep up appearances, as Lexi had commanded her, but part of the response also honestly came from her desire to mother Julia and make sure she was happy.

“Are you hungry, Julia?” Ava asked in honest concern.

“It’s been a few hours, I think,” Julia answered. “My stomach is definitely starting to rumble.“

“Yeah, I could eat something,” Jamie agreed— she realized she’d agreed without thinking about it, in such a relaxed state that the thought of simply going along with Julia had seemed very natural to her.

“I’m definitely hungry too,” Lexi interjected abruptly.

“I guess most of us are starting to feel hungry,” Ava observed. “We could all go inside, and I could cook us dinner.”

Julia pushed herself up off the lounger a little, holding herself off it by her arms, and looking aside to her mother. “But those leftovers were there, Mom. How long have they been there?”

“Casey made dinner last night,” Ava answered immediately. She wanted to be helpful. “She made some casserole. It was very good. She made more helpings than necessary, since she knew everyone would be arriving today. And then Lyndsey wrapped the dish up in plastic-wrap.“

“Then if it’s only from last night,” Julia went on. “Why don’t we just heat that up and eat it, since it’s already been prepared?”

Ava thought about her options. She could just heat up the casserole from the night before— then they’d all be eating in short order, and she’d have successfully solved the problem which had been presented to her.

She ed how to be the Ava Reynolds she’d always been— and she ed Lexi’s command that she must how to do that. But though both those things were true, it was also true that she was still a slave inside. And out of that slavish devotion came the very real desire to— serve. To expend the maximum amount of effort— to inconvenience herself to the fullest extent— and make sure the people she served had only things of the best possible quality. She felt that generally, in relation to every guest at her house right now. Casserole wouldn’t be special enough for them— and warming up leftover casserole would make things too easy on herself. She wanted to inconvenience herself more— wanted to put herself through the inconvenience of spending considerable time, and cooking up an entire dinner.

And there was more to this impulse, too. Generally she wanted to serve all her guests, because she was a slave, and service was her default function. But the other part of this was that— Lexi would also be eating the food that Ava served. And Lexi was her Mistress— she was Lexi’s slave. That meant her desire for Lexi to have high-quality things and experiences was even more intense than her general desire for all her guests to be comfortable in that way. And if she put some effort into making a nice dinner— all her guests would get to enjoy it; so she’d have satisfied her purpose of general service. But Lexi, specifically, would get to enjoy it too— so she’d have satisfied her even more intense desire to provide Lexi with all that was best.

“We could have some of that casserole for lunch tomorrow,” Ava dismissed. “I’d rather cook us all a nice meal. The last time Lexi went to town for groceries, she got us some quite high-quality cuts of steak from our butcher. She got some asparagus too, when she was elsewhere getting all our produce. She only went on that grocery-run earlier in the week, ahead of you all getting here, so I think it will still be quite fresh. I’d like to make that for dinner. I can go inside right now, and get started.“

Julia was frowning. “But Mom, that’ll take over an hour. Why would you spend so much time doing something when you could just easily heat something up? That’s not really like you— you practically live off of leftovers. Even on evenings where you have free-time, you’re usually so exhausted from managing everything and negotiating deals that you just heat up whatever’s in the fridge, and spent the rest of the evening winding down. And you were negotiating a big deal when we got here, today. Usually that should mean you have no energy left— why should today be so different?“

A streak of guilt and terror sliced through Ava. She wasn’t following Lexi’s command—— she wasn’t doing a good job of being Lexi’s slave! She’d failed to act like the typical Ava Reynolds she was supposed to be. She’d been doing such a good job of that before— why had it suddenly become so hard to be the person her life and environment expected of her? Why had it become so hard in this specific situation? She should have done a better job, she should have made Lexi proud—

Actually, that made Ava’s eyes wander in search of Lexi. And when she looked to Lexi’s face, she saw Lexi was already looking at her. That made Ava’s heart race. Her Mistress was looking at her— in just a flash of Lexi’s eyes, she could show Ava how much she disapproved, how much she was disappointed.

But Lexi only raised an eyebrow to her; then let a slow smile spread her mouth, and finally gave Ava a slight nod.

Oh, Lexi didn’t disapprove! She wished she could be alone with Lexi and hear why she didn’t disapprove. But she couldn’t isolate herself with Lexi as she wanted to.

Lexi had given her permission, though. So she could go on with this. And there was something— so delicious about the fact that she and Lexi could carry out these secret dynamics in front of everyone, without anyone even guessing. It made her slavery seem even more real to her. It made her cherish it even more.

She had to at least make an effort, and see if she could convince Julia to accept her desire to do this, though. That would be— like obeying Lexi’s overarching command after all. And it would mean inconveniencing herself. If Lexi enjoyed watching her do it, would mean pleasing and serving Lexi again, too.

“Today is different,” Ava said, warmly. “Because today my daughter’s back home to stay with me for the summer, and all her friends are here too. It makes me want to celebrate. It makes me want to do something special. That’s why I’ve got the energy to cook tonight. That’s why I don’t just want to settle for leftovers. Today is a special occasion. I want to celebrate it.“

When Julia heard her mother explain it that way, it did make slightly more sense to her. But overall, there was something about it that still just seemed... odd.

“Okay, Mom,” Julia said. “Fair enough. I guess we’ll all go up to our rooms and change out of our suits and then come down again in about an hour.”

“Sounds like a plan,” Ava said, and strode for the sliding-doors.

She started arranging things in the kitchen; in the next few moments, everyone else entered and ed by her. She heard them going up the stairs— and then things were quiet. She was the only one left on the main floor. And she was wearing swimwear that was only slowly air-drying. She was in discomfort, not back into better clothes yet, and having to stand and toil and cook— while everyone else was up in their rooms, lounging and waiting in comfort.

That seemed so right to her mind. She was the slave— she was serving them all, and they were all getting to be comfortable while she had to suffer. She had inconvenienced herself so much to do this; and she’d done so unnecessarily, too! She could have just heated up the casserole, and make everything easy for herself— but she’d made it as difficult and umcomfortable as possible— that felt so right. She’d even gone so far as to bend Lexi’s command a little— but Lexi had enjoyed that, so the fact she’d done that— was incredibly right too.

After an hour, everyone came back down, and seated themselves around the table in the dining-nook, instead of the table in the kitchen. That felt even more proper. They were sitting, waiting to be served— and Ava was still having to finish making dinner.

About another fifteen minutes later, everything was ready. Ava served up each plate, and carried them two at a time to the table. She stole a little more obedience for herself by placing the first plate down in front of Lexi— then served Julia second. The next two plates went to Jamie, and then Katie. Then she brought out the final plate for herself, and set it at the head of the table. Lamentable Lexi had not been able to sit in that spot— that was her rightful place— but stealing the kind of obedience which would have been necessary to arrange that would have been going too far, at least for now. Besides, she could trust Lexi. If Lexi really wanted to be in that spot, she’d have some clever way of finagling herself into it.

Ava brought out cutlery for everyone, then spoke up. “You should all start eating,” she told them. “My bathing-suit is still damp. I’m just going to take 10 minutes to run upstairs, and change. But you don’t need to wait for me— eat!”

Ava hurried out of the room before there could be any protestations, and hurried up the stairs. She realized now that when Julia had spoken up, she’d been quite hungry herself— but she’d been so concerned about serving properly and doing what was expected of her that she hadn’t even realized it. And then all the time she’d been cooking inside, she’d been too focused on her task to recognize that hunger.

But she was feeling it now, and it made her feel like even more of a slave. Everyone else was down there with a hot meal, eating there food— and she was going up the stairs, hungry and damp, still hungry, having to stay hungry for a while longer than everyone else. That was just so right.

She made it to her master suite, and peeled the damp bathing-suit off of her. Usually, she would have taken a shower at this point, but the thought of simply towelling herself dry made her feel more abject, so she did that instead, and then put on some comfortable loungewear— tan silk pants, and magenta cotton shirt. She didn’t put underwear on beneath her clothes— they were loose enough no indecency would show through them. And she was too desperate to steal more obedience for herself. Oh, if Lexi could somehow get her alone, and see that she wasn’t wearing anything underneath!

She hung her bathing-suit over the bar of her shower, to let it dry up from its dampness. Then she stepped into her pair of house-slippers, and hurried back down the stairs.

When she got to the dining-nook, she saw, to her delight, that everyone had begun to eat their dinner. And now that she’d completed what she’d been thinking of as her “slave-tasks,” she could truly pay attention to her surroundings. So now she was able to see that Julia and all the others had put back on the clothes they’d arrived in earlier in the day. She sat herself at the head of the table, once more rueing that Lexi couldn’t be sitting there instead. But when she started to eat her dinner, it cheered her up. Because her food had gotten a little cold— so she had not gotten to enjoy the same kind of hot meal everyone else had gotten to enjoy, and were probably still enjoying since none of their plates had been left to sit like hers had. She was eating partially-cold food. That was so slave-appropriate. It was just perfect.

They all fell into easy chit-chattering, then, which continued on through the rest of dinner. Once they’d all finished, Lexi spoke up. “Why don’t we all go hang out in the living-room?” She asked.

“Good idea, Lexi,” Julia agreed. “Mom, will you come too? I haven’t seen much of you this evening so far.”

“I’ll come,” Ava nodded. “I’m just going to clean up all the dishes from making and eating dinner first, but then I’ll come.”

“You cooked,” Julia said uncertainly. “We should really be the ones—“

“Don’t be silly, Julia,” Ava dismissed— ravenous for another chance to be abject, and ravenous for another chance to get away with playing a slave-dynamic for Lexi that none of the others could see. “This is part of my celebration too. Unless you’ve all been carefree houseguests today, I won’t feel I’ve really been able to observe this occasion properly. So that means I need to do this too— alone.”

“If you’re sure,” Julia said, uncertainly. But in Julia’s thoughts, she was reflecting to herself that this was odd too.

“I’m sure your Mom will be fine, Julia,” Lexi said. “Let’s all go into the living-room, and then we can sit comfortably, and wait for her.”

The group split up accordingly— four of them going into the living-room, and one of them piling the plates and taking them to the kitchen. Half-an-hour later, all the dishes drying on the drying rack, Ava left the kitchen and ventured into the living- room.

Ava had reached the living-room. And as she entered now, she surveyed the scene that was before her.

The set-up of the living-room was the same. That made sense, because she hadn’t heard anyone moving furniture around in here while she’d been in the kitchen.

So the long couch had its back to the windows and the sliding-doors. Then there was a comfortable amount of space, quite a bit of space really, between the windows, the sliding-doors and the long couch. The long couch then faced the opposite wall. And ahead of the couch, there was a coffeetable.

If one was standing behind the couch, and facing toward the opposite wall, then the large living-room fireplace would be on that one’s right-hand side, and the armchair which sat kitty-corner to the couch would be on that one’s left.

On the opposite wall which the long couch faced, there was a huge mounted flat screen tv, one which was well over eighty inches in size.

The room was not quiet, as Ava stood in it and considered it. There was a table in the corner between the long couch and the armchair, on which a record-player rested. A record playing some nice easy listening music was currently turning, giving the room a comfortable, pleasant ambiance.

Since it was dark out now, all the lamps were glowing ornately as well, similarly contributing to the ambiance.

The living-room was set up the same way it always was, so it looked the same. But Ava took a moment to catch up to some of the particulars in the room which weren’t usually there.

Julia was sitting on the long couch, closer to the end of couch nearest the armchair. Jamie was sitting beside her, closer to the end of the couch nearest the fireplace.

Lexi, however, had neither sat in the armchair nor on the soft carpeting. She had instead seated herself on the coffeetable, in front of the long couch. She was partly centered between Jamie and Julia. Katie was sitting on the floor, in the gap between the armchair and the coffeetable’s edge, right beside Lexi but lower down. But because of where the coffeetable had been placed relative to the long couch, there was enough space beside Katie that somebody could have easily stood in what remained of the gap, to sit in the armchair— without ever knocking into her.

Everyone in the room looked relaxed, and calm. And again, Ava felt her slavery. She had been in the kitchen scrubbing and scrubbing, and they’d all been sitting here, listening to that calming music and enjoying the fireplace. How nice that must have been for them— what drudgery it had been for her.

But Ava had promised she would them in the living-room. And in promising that, this had become a slave-task for her to carry out.

She didn’t announce her arrival, now. She simply crossed the floor to reach the armchair, and then seated herself in it.

Katie was still sitting in front of her, but there was still enough space for Ava to cross one leg over the other without ever kicking Katie.

It was comfortable in here. And Ava had carried out all her slave-tasks so well. She felt she’d earned her right to relax now.

Once Ava was sitting-down— as if Lexi had only been waiting for her to arrive, Lexi spoke up. “Julia,” she started. “What do you think about letting me hypnotize you? Would you ever let me do that?”

Julia frowned. Lexi’s request struck her as a bit strange. They’d all been sitting here in quiet silence amiably listening to the record that was playing, and they’d been sitting here for some time. But this made it seem like Lexi had been pondering this question for the entire time they’d all been sitting there. Like she’d been waiting to ask it, eager to.

If Lexi cared that much, where could the harm be in allowing Lexi to do what she wanted? And given how much Lexi cared, deliberating on the question would be the nicer thing to do.

Would she be willing to let Lexi hypnotize her?

She thought about that for a moment. She was studying psychology for her degree. And even outside of her textbooks, she did try to read up on psychology out of interest. So she understood some of the psychological dynamics that went on when hypnosis was in play. She truly understood the weight of what Lexi was asking her because of her background of study.

But how could it be a bad idea to let Lexi hypnotize her? Especially given how much Lexi seemed to care about doing it— and given how seriously she was taking it. Clearly someone who cared this much wasn’t about to make a thoughtless frivolous mistake. So where could the danger be?

Jamie’s sitting right beside me, and my mother is exactly diagonal from me. What can Lexi really do to me? She asked herself.

She thought a little bit more about the psychological elements which would be at play.

If Julia told her mind that she was letting Lexi try, she’d be indicating to it that she believed a hypnotic state could really happen for her. And if she signalled that belief, there’d be things in her mind that would then rearrange themselves to create the mental experience that she’d left the door open to, gone looking for. So then she would have the true experience of being hypnotized.

And then, depending on what happened from that point, it was possible that everything would just keep wearing in deeper and deeper. Because in the first second of experiencing hypnosis as something real, Julia’s mind would have formed a new pathway. Then if Lexi kept giving the experience back to her again and again, that pathway would only become further reinforced. After that, if Lexi wanted to give her experiences like it in the future, there’d be a past framework to fall back on that would make it even easier for Julia to return to that kind of experience.

It wouldn’t be a game. This would mean actively letting Lexi rearrange things within her psyche.

But again. Jamie was right beside her, and her mother was diagonal from her. How could anything bad happen to her in these circumstances? Julia understood the weight of what accepting would mean, but all the same Lexi’s offer seemed harmless.

Why not try? As a student of the human mind, it would be an interesting experience to refer back to after the fact. Something to for comparison, when she did future reading and research after this moment, again. It would only be instructive to have first-hand experience of this. And it was still going to be completely harmless.

“Okay, Lexi,” Julia said. “You can hypnotize me.”

Beside Julia, Jamie was surprised to hear her girlfriend’s agreement. But Julia usually put a decent amount of thought into things, so Jamie was sure Julia had arrived at her decision for a good reason.

Jamie was curious about how this was going to unfold, though. She watched eagerly to see what would happen next.

The first thing that happened was that Lexi reached to the collar of her shirt and pulled at the gold-chain which was resting underneath. She fed the chain up with her fingers until she’d made the entire necklace emerge.

With the necklace out, Jamie saw that there was a pink sapphire suspended from the end of it. Lexi was holding the necklace by the chain, pinching the two strands of the chain together, and holding it out from her body slightly. So the chain was hanging, but was not hanging as low as it would have hung, had Lexi not artificially drawn it forward. A certain amount of the chain was being held out horizontally, to reach the point where Lexi’s hand hovered. So naturally there was less chain left from the pinch-point, and the chain was hanging shorter than it otherwise would have.

“Just look at my pink sapphire now, Julia. You’re not right up close to it, but you can see it even from where you are. The light from the lamps hits on it and makes it shine. You can see that shining. And when you see that shining happening there, you feel your mind sliding out of clarity. Sliding into fuzziness. You want to let that feeling happen. It’s such a wonderful feeling. It feels just the way it has felt to be sitting here quietly in the living-room all together. Feels just the way it’s felt to feel the fire in the fireplace burning, and to see the lightbulbs in the lamps illumination, and to hear the record in the player playing.

“All of that has been so peaceful, and without stress. And you’re having all those experiences over again. Having a combination of all of them together. A combination of all of them together, and then intensified. Just looking at this sapphire makes that happen. As you look at it, you want to keep looking at it. And when you understand you want to look at, you find you understand that you also want to keep listening to me.”

Jamie didn’t know what was happening for Julia, but something was happening for her. She felt like she was slipping into a half-dream; almost sleeping deeply enough to be dreamless. Her mind was hazy, and everything around her felt so comforting and safe. Lexi was saying the most engrossing things she’d ever heard, and the sapphire was shining, shining so beautifully. Everything about this was simply warm and wonderful. She could just follow along easily. This hadn’t even been intended for her. But it had caught her up along with it anyway. That was so... lucky.

“Watch the sapphire shine, Julia. Just watch the sapphire shine. Watching makes you feel like you’re already sleeping. Watching makes you feel like you’re no longer awake. You know your eyes are open, and you know your mind is still aware, but this feels like the perfect experience of sleep anyway. You can’t argue with that illusion because it’s such a comforting, reassuring illusion to give yourself over to. When you watch the sapphire shine, you feel the room grow warmer. And you feel yourself grow more peaceful. Then you believe what I’m saying to you more fervently. And you want to believe what I’m saying even more fervently than you already do.”

Lexi was right about everything she was saying, Julia thought. But she heard, too, that she didn’t need to follow every single thing that Lexi said; that she could trust her mind to record it all, and just drift and float in the feeling. And when she began doing that, it felt even better. She felt as though she were descending a steep hill. Down a step, and she felt warmer. Down a step, warmer still; down a step, warmer still. She had no idea what time was doing anymore, or how it was progressing. But she felt entirely comforted, held and swaddled in warmth.

She didn’t care how things were warping around her. She didn’t care what she was leaving behind her, or what she was missing out on. She only need to feel this feeling. This feeling was perfect, and she only needed to feel THIS feeling. She believed that more and more deeply.

As time continued to in the mysterious way it was ing, Jamie was drifting. Drifting as she watched the sapphire shine, and heard Lexi speak. She didn’t know how long she’d been drifting, but she felt she’d been lulled within her dream, and so comfort by that.

Lexi was saying something else now, though. Something else her mind was actually taking in.

“And look at how pathetic Jamie is there,” she was saying. “I wasn’t even trying to target her. But she just came along with you, Julia, as soon as I started to hypnotize you. Jamie’s so weak. Her defenses are so low. She’s so easy to hypnotize I didn’t even have to target her directly. And I was already in her head from earlier. That only made everything easier.

“When we were standing out on the deck looking at the vista, I tested her. And she went into a trance for me without even realizing it. Her mind already knows to obey me, because everybody knows it’s natural to obey me. Her mind already knows to obey me, so as soon as it saw the opportunity I was giving you, it seized that opportunity for itself. Wanted to get right back to obeying me again.

“You’re mine, and Jamie’s mine, and that just makes you go deeper and deeper. You’ve told me before you think Jamie is one of the strongest people you know, but look at how easily she succumbed to me. Even before now, how easily she succumbed to me out on the deck. And how easily she’s succumbed to me again, now. As soon as I pulled the sapphire out to show it you. She’s weak, and pathetic. The strongest person you know is weak and pathetic. Because everyone who faces me becomes weak and pathetic. You feel that you’re becoming weak and pathetic. That’s just inevitable. That’s just what always happens.”

Jamie bristled at Lexi’s words. I’m not pathetic! I’m not weak! I just didn’t know I was in the presence of such a threat.

Julia reflected on what Lexi had just said to her. She’d been drifting, but the more sinister edge to Lexi’s words had called her focus back. And maybe Lexi did really... own her... and own Jamie too...

Maybe she did. And she owned Katie too— but the four of them weren’t alone in the house— there was someone else— someone who held authority, someone who could— get law enforcement involved if that needed to happen. Or raise it like a specter if it needed to be held up as a threat to get Lexi to back off. Julia’s mind was too clouded to question why her mother hadn’t intervened before. After feeling that edge of fear, she’d returned to believing everything would be alright. Her mother could help— her mother had always helped—

“Mom,” Julia said. “Help us— you can— make Lexi stop— or get help from outside—”

Even in her clouded state, she saw Lexi’s lips quirk into a smile. “Ava, you have my permission to confess to Julia what’s happened to you.”

“When I went upstairs to put on my swimwear earlier, Julia,” Ava began immediately. “Lexi enslaved me. And then fucked me, and kept enslaving me deeper as she kept fucking me. I’m her slave now. She wants you to be her slave too— so that’s what must happen.”

Julia was filled with a deep sense of horror. ENSLAVED? But how could she doubt it? She was in a suggestible state where her mind was prepared to accept everything she heard as incontrovertible truth. And her mother’s behavior seemed like good evidence, too. If she’d been acting like her normal self— she never would have sat here and allowed Lexi to do this. And now that this explanation had been given to Julia, her mother’s recent odd behavior was also making sense. Everything was pointing to this being the truth— but then if it was true—

Oh god! Jamie and I will both be enslaved! And everyone in this house will BECOME Lexi’s slave— and it’s all my fault. Jamie and my mother are the two most important things in the world to me, and I love them more than anything— and I’ve placed them in the path of danger like this. How could I be THIS wrong about Lexi? How could she hide this kind of cruelty for THIS long? It’s all my fault— I never should have brought her home— I never should have exposed Jamie and my mother to her— and it’s too late—

But Lexi twisted the chain, to make the light catch the sapphire a little more.

Then Julia was sure it was too late. Because her mind went on, and submerged itself even more.
