Fall of the Goddesses: Aftermath
Part Two: Ice
Alicia looked over at Pamela as she bawled her eyes out, begging James not to leave her. As that scene unfolded she leaned in towards Jane. “You know you’re going to owe James big for this.”
“I know,” she responded, bluntly.
“No seriously. When this is over I’m not sure Ball Buster is going to ever be willing to work with him again. You may have just cost him his job on his first day.”
“I’ll figure something out,” was all she said.
“You’d better.”
Jane just waved her off as she walked over to separate James from his mother. Alicia watched this as she secretly chuckled to herself. People always thought that just because her powers were based on ice she had to have a cold and frozen personality. Meanwhile Jane was supposed to be the rash and feisty one. In truth it was quite the opposite. Alicia always carried her feelings on her sleeves, while Jane always kept everything hidden behind a calculating mind. The very nature of that had made it meant that Alicia had been the one to do the chasing in their relationship.
It had taken her almost a year just to get her to agree to a date, though at least once she’d broken Jane down enough to it that she actually wanted her, everything else moved fast. It was like once Jane knew what she wanted she started calculating just how to get it, or in this case, get her.
Not that Alicia was upset by this. She loved Jane, even if she sometimes infuriated her when she did shit like making Ball Buster think James had been the one to purposely leash her.
And it did infuriate her. She’d known James since they were kids. Honestly, she loved him like he was her own brother.
ittedly that had been tested a little bit when he’d actually confessed his feelings for her. But he’d taken her rejection well and had even agreed to be her best man at her wedding. She just wished he could finally move on and find someone else, someone who would love him like he deserved.
But whoever that person was, it definitely wasn’t her. And now wasn’t exactly the time to be thinking about those things. Instead she took his sobbing mother and gently led her inside. She had to take a brief stop for Pamela to throw up in a toilet, but she was eventually able to get her tucked into a bed.
“He’s going to leave me, I know it. They always leave.”
“He’s not going to abandon you Pam. I know James, he’s not going anywhere, he’ll be back before you know it,” she told her in an attempt to comfort her.
“But I was so horrible to him...”
“Then just don’t be. Listen, all James really wants from you is to try and be a good mother.”
“A good mother?”
“Just give it a try. Who knows, you might like it,” Alicia told her before heading off to check the coms to see if anyone had any info that might give her an idea of what to do.
As expected, no one here had any idea of anything she could be doing right now. It made sense, they were in LA and the nearest location of a known goddess was Metis and Hecate, both of which were clear across the county in New York. Other than keeping an eye out to see if they might find one of the goddesses in their own area, there wasn’t much they could do just yet.
Instead she just sat there, getting more and more anxious as time went by. Her mind kept imagining horrible scenarios, like what if something went wrong and James had gotten killed on the way to the safehouse. What if the next time she saw Jane she was being forced to attack and possibly kill her. She’d never been this powerless before and it was seriously terrifying her.
It was almost a relief when Jane finally returned, looking somehow more shaken then she was when goddesses’ decree came down on them. “Is everything okay?” she asked her.
“Yeah,” Jane replied. “It’s just....this is finally all hitting me. This is real, not some, crazy nightmare.”
Alicia got up and rushed into Jane’s arms. Jane was taken aback by this, as Alicia quickly brought her in for a kiss. Alicia’s tongue forced its way into her mouth, quickly twirling around, as though desperate for connection.
After about a minute Jane broke the kiss. “I’m not sure this is a good idea right now,” Jane told her. “Please,” Alicia pleaded. “I need this. I need to be reminded that whatever happens, we’re still going to be us.”
Jane sighed as she gave her a sardonic grin. “The things I do for love,” she said as she led her back to their room.
Alicia clung to Jane desperately as they collapsed onto bed, their clothing lying haphazardly across the floor. Jane pulled away though, as she began to move herself down Alicia’s body, first sucking on her breasts before moving further down as she laid kisses onto her stomach. Alicia tensed, feeling what was coming next, but Jane surprised her. Instead of moving further down to eat her out, Jane turned her own body around, wrapped her own legs around her, and began to grind her sex against Alicia’s.
Alicia moaned in ecstasy as she timed her own grinding to accentuate Jane’s. Her hand shot down and began to rub Jane’s clit, desperate to bring her more pleasure. Jane for her part saw that and returned the favor, gently pinching Alicia’s. Alicia grinded even harder as she felt her orgasm approaching, working her ass harder and harder until, finally, she screamed out as came.
She collapsed, breathing heavily as she basking in the post coital bliss. Jane moved up and lay down beside her, her arms reaching around to hold Alicia tight. “Tell me everything’s going to be okay,” Alicia said.
“Of course it’ll be. We’ve seen stuff like this before. Give it a few days and we’ll have everything back to normal again, like it never happened.” Alicia took a deep breath and relaxed then, falling asleep in Jane’s arms.
She woke up alone.
Not sure what was going on and somehow afraid. Alicia got up and began looking for Jane. She found her in the rec room, staring at the tv as stations were presenting a live feed from Olympia, the home of Metis.
At the moment it was showing Venus fighting against around two dozen powered people simultaneously. The scary part was that she didn’t seem to be breaking a sweat doing it. She’d simply appear in front of a super, having moved so fast that the camera couldn’t it, then knock the super down where a team of six women, Alicia presumed they were probably supers she hadn’t heard of, almost certainly leashed to whoever was behind this, would grab them and bring them inside. Occasionally one of those women would return to help the six others in pulling more supers inside. Alicia guessed that ones that didn’t come back were ones that were already leashed to someone else. She didn’t want to think about what happened to them in those circumstances.
Eventually Venus ran out of supers to fight and went back inside, at which point the news cut to various commentators trying to figure out what exactly was going on. “Well that was a bust,” Jane exclaimed in disappointment.
“They tried,” was all Alicia could say.
“Yeah and they failed. They should have gone in there expecting to have to fight Venus. They shouldn’t have gone in at all unless they had either overwhelming numbers or someone who could hold Venus off long enough for the others to do what needed to be done.”
“Well they couldn’t have done nothing,” Alicia countered.
“And look where that got them. Now they have two dozen more slaves to protect them from the next assault we make.”
Alicia didn’t know what to say to that. Intellectually, she knew Jane was right, but somehow it also felt wrong to do nothing in the face of the literal slavery of the entire super community. Faced with such unanswerable questions, Alicia instead decided to get up and grab a cup of coffee.
When she came back she placed a cup, black as night, sweet as sin, in front of Jane. As she sipped her cup, lots of cream, lots of sugar, she felt herself calm down. “You know,” she told Jane, “If I went by your logic, I’d probably have never gotten together with you, considering how much you seriously fought against itting your feelings for me.”
“That was because I knew how much James loved you. I felt like, if I made a move on you, I’d be stealing you away from him.”
“I was never his you know.”
“I know,” Jane itted. After a moment, she turned back to her, her eyes serious. “You want to know the real fucked up thing. If I could have, I would have wanted us all to get married together.”
Alicia was stupified. “Wait. You know you’re talking about marrying your own brother!?”
“Well I’m not talking about having sex with him,” Jane responded, almost insulted by the implication. “I just mean, back then it was the three of us against the world and when I left James with mom, we kind of lost that. I really just wanted us to be like a family again.”
“We are a family,” Alicia consoled her. “Even now with everything. No matter what happens, we’ll always have each other’s back, right?”
Jane let out a quiet chuckle. “Yeah, you’re right. I just...don’t want to make James wait too long.”
“He won’t.”
The rest of that day was agonizing. Everyone was on edge since the public still didn’t know why Metis was attacked, but people were beginning to notice that the supers, both heroines and villainesses alike, were all keeping their heads down. Ice ended up doing a public patrol because the regular criminals, which they rarely dealt with anyway as the police were better trained and equipped to handle them, were getting out of hand. It seemed the vanishing of heroines somehow made them think that there wasn’t anyone that would actually stop them. She ended up spending the whole day putting out one minor fire after another, barely having enough time to get back to HQ and collapse onto the couch before Metis’ press conference.
The press conference was somehow worse than she’d ever imagined.
She’d expected some man cackling to the press about his victory, or perhaps a villainess proclaiming herself a new goddess of the world. She hadn’t expected Metis to come out completely naked and appear overjoyed to have been turned into some sort of sex slave. The sight of it just made her skin crawl.
Ball Blaster proceeded to get them all a drink, well, everyone except Pam, who couldn’t touch it. Alicia took the opportunity to get herself completely shitfaced before collapsing into bed, her limbs entangled with Jane’s as she fell into a dreamless sleep.
Alicia woke up to the feeling of Jane repositioning her as she tried to quietly get up. Alicia instead gripped her harder and gave her a morning kiss. Jane for her part kissed her back for a few seconds before reluctantly parting from her. “Sorry, but I’ve got a press conference to plan and you need to get out there and help deal with the fallout from yesterday.”
“How bad do you think it’s going to be?”
“Pretty bad. Hopefully by now most of us have found somebody like James is for us, but I know too many women who would rather die than willingly take orders from anyone, male or female. That’s not to mention the supervillainesses out there who frankly can’t trust anyone to have their leash and are probably laying low while they wait for us to fix this. To put it simply, we’re about to be right in the middle of a real shitstorm.”
She was right of course. The reveal of what had happened brought out all the crazies. Alicia wasn’t sure if it was because they thought they could take control of any heroine that showed up, or that they figured none of them would dare show up. Either way Alicia was kept so busy she wasn’t even able to show up in time to help Ball Buster when she had to face Ball Blaster.
She heard later that Ball Buster ended up killing the man who’d been in control of Ball Blaster. Alicia knew she should probably be horrified by that, but honestly, she felt the bastard deserved it.
At least she was able to be there to help Ball Blaster cope with what had happened. They deliberately waited until Ball Buster had left before bringing her to James, since Ball Blaster had seemed so dead set against anyone getting control of her.
It was understandable considering both what had happened to Ball Blaster, along with Ball Buster’s own personal politics, but the situation was dire and they couldn’t afford to risk her falling into the hands of another pervert like the one who’d grabbed her before.
After James took control of her, she then helped her to a bed where she could rest the night before they turned her in to the authorities. Afterwards she collapsed into bed, too tired to even check with Jane about how the press conference went
She dreamed of James that night. It was of the day, back when they were teenagers that he’d confessed to her. At the time she’d been embarrassed. She liked him, but as a brother, not as anything romantic. She hadn’t quite figured out that she was a lesbian yet, but she knew she wasn’t attracted to anyone, at least not anyone male.
The dream was different though. In the dream, instead of letting him down easy, or at least as easy as she could considering that she was telling someone who was in love with her that she didn’t feel the same way, this time she’d agreed to go on a date with him. The date itself was nothing spectacular, they’d gone out to eat and then walked around window shopping and just talking about anything that came to mind. When it was over James took her home and then gave her a light peck on the cheek before leaving her at her doorstep. Shortly afterwards she woke up.
The dream itself had left her confused. At the time and even now it had felt, well, nice. Obviously she still wasn’t in love with him, but it weirdly felt to her that if things had been different, it wouldn’t have been all that bad for her to have ended up with James instead of Jane.
That feeling only lasted until she got to the kitchen. When she got there she saw Pamela, humming a friendly tune as she mixed batter in a bowl. On the stovetop she could hear the sound of bacon on the griddle. “Just relax dear, I’ll have breakfast ready shortly,” Pam told her with a friendly smile. “Are you, okay?” Alicia asked, confusion evident on her face.
“Why of course I’m okay. I haven’t felt this wonderful in ages.”
“So....what inspired you to do this?”
“It was a lovely dream I had.”
“A dream?”
“Yes,” Pam asserted. “Oh it was so lovely. I was in the park, just sitting on a bench, watching all of you playing together...”
“Playing?” Alicia added in, confusion evident on her face.
“Well you were all children of course, but yes. Anyway, after a little bit I saw James trip and skin his knee. I rushed over and gave it a little kiss to make the pain go away before bandaging him up. Then James gave me a big hug and told me he loved me. My heart just melted then. I knew that this was what I’d always wanted, to be a good mother. I smiled then and told him I loved him too before shooing him off to go off and continue playing with the rest of you. Then I sat back down and watched, happier than I’d ever been in my entire life.”
Alicia suddenly had a very sinking feeling about where this was going. “So then you woke up and decided to make breakfast for us all.”
“Of course! A good mother should make sure her children never leave home without a good breakfast.”
“And...you’re a good mother?”
“I know I know, I haven’t really been one. But now I’m ready to be who I was always meant to be.”
It was at that moment that Jane walked in. It was obvious from her disheveled look and the fact that she was still wearing her clothes from last night that she hadn’t slept a wink. She simply stumbled into the room before stopping dead, her mouth open in shock at seeing her own mother being, well, a mother.
“Okay, I’ve started hallucinating now, I clearly need some sleep.”
Alicia took that moment to motion Jane to follow her. “Pam, you keep working on breakfast. I just need to talk to Jane about something.”
“Okay,” Pamela said cheerfully as she monitored the pancakes as they began to cook on the griddle.
“Okay, do you want to explain exactly what drugs my mother seems to be on?”
Alicia decided to ignore that and lead with her own question. “Did you have a dream about James last night?”
Jane narrowed her eyes. “I haven’t exactly gotten much sleep lately. Why?”
“Because both I and your mother dreamed about him last night.”
“So? given everything that’s happened, that’s not exactly unusual.”
“I think what Alicia is trying to say is that our new bond with James is causing our personalities to change.”
Jane and Alicia immediately turned their heads to see Pamela standing by the door. “Breakfast is ready,” she said with a cheerful voice before turning back towards the kitchen.
“What a second. What do you mean by that?!” Jane yelled as she followed after her. Alicia growled in frustration before following behind them.
“It’s just what I said. This bond with James that the goddesses have forced on us is more complicated than we originally thought. We’re not just being forced to obey, we’re being changed.”
“Into what?” Jane asked.
“I think that depends on us.”
Before either Jane or Alicia could question her further, they heard the sound of a slamming door, indicating the arrival of Ball Buster, who shortly after confirmed that she too had had a dream involving James.
At this point Alicia was certain. They were being changed into the type of person that James wishes they were. In the case of Pamela, she changed into his ideal mother. For Ball Buster, she was beginning to change into someone who would actually listen to James for once. As for herself, Alicia was being changed into someone who would love James the way he loved her.
That James almost certainly had no idea he was doing this to them somehow made it worse.
That night brought another dream. This time she was at home, breast feeding a baby as her belly showed that she was pregnant again. She knew she should be horrified by this, being reduced to nothing more than a babymaking machine. She was horrified, but not of that. Instead she felt horror at the knowledge that when she woke up, this baby was going to be gone, reduced to nonexistence.
How could she have forsaken this, given up on being a mother just so she could indulge in pleasure?
What the fuck was she thinking? With what was left of her will, Alicia pulled herself back together. As she did so the image of herself disappeared. The last thing she saw before darkness took her, was the image of James entering the room.
She woke up alone in the darkness.
It was not a good feeling. After last night she needed Jane to help ground her and without her presence she felt...unsettled. Needing that she got up and began to look for her.
It didn’t take long. She found her in the conference room on a video call with Amazonia.
Already Alicia could tell something was horrifically wrong. Amazonia was a tall proud warrior woman, with long black hair and blue eyes that framed a lean but muscular build that under normal circumstances would be framed by a combat suit, custom designed to hold a variety of weapons that she wielded in battle as though they were a part of her. Instead she was wearing a maid outfit.
Considering that she was the leader of Artemis’ personal heroine team this made a sort of terrible sense. There was no way anyone could have approached Artemis without going through Amazonia first.
“Please, if you just tell us where you are, we can talk this out,” Jane pleaded with her.
“I’m sorry, but Artemis is currently busy being impregnated by the Master right now, she has no time to be talking with some third rate team from the back end of nowhere.”
“What about after she’s been impregnated?” Alicia cut in.
Amazonia looked at her suspiciously. “What are you up to?” she asked.
“I’m just trying to find a reasonable compromise. I’m not up to anything.”
For a moment, it looked like Amazonia was entertaining her, but then, her eyes hardened. “I see what you’re up to. As soon as Artemis is impregnated you want Master to impregnate you!”
“No that’s not,” Jane began.
“Well you can forget it. Master has promised me that as soon as he’s done impregnating Artemis I will be next. And after that it will be the rest of the Huntresses. You can just forget about it.”
She then cut the feed immediately. “I’m sorry, I guess I messed this up,” Alicia apologized. Jane immediately waved it off however. “Forget about it. I don’t think we were going to get anywhere with her anyway.”
“How were you able to her? I would have thought they’d have gone dark.”
“Surprisingly enough my mom. You know how she lead the junior teams for like, forever?”
Alicia nodded yes. “Well, as it turns out, Amazonia was on one of them. Before she left she gave mom her personal info in case she ever needed her.”
Alicia gave a nervous laugh. “Yeah, I wonder how many heroines out there were practically trained by her?”
They both began to giggle at the thought of that, only for it to break down into a full laugh session, the absurdity of it somehow helping to relieve the tension of this entire fucked up situation. Afterwards, Alicia truly looked at Jane. It was clear she hadn’t slept at all that night. “Get some rest. I’ll take over for you.”
Jane sighed in resignation. “I just, I need to fix this somehow.”
“I know, but right now we need to accept this isn’t going to end anytime soon.”
Jane looked terrified. “I can’t let that happen. I need to get James back.”
Alicia put her hands on Jane’s shoulders. “I know. I miss him too, but he’s keeping away from us for a reason. We can’t bring him back while we’re like this.”
Jane still looked scared, but then, a thought seemed to through her head. She looked back at Alicia, her face full of resolve. “Thanks. I know what I need to do now,” she said as she hurriedly turned and walked away.
“What’s that?” Alicia called out to her, only to receive silence in return.
The next few days were hell.
There were fights of course. Some of them were supers who had been taken over by some crazy rando early. Others were the normal villainesses who had found someone they trusted to take control of them, usually a husband. But that wasn’t what made it hell.
It was the dreams.
Every night was a new dream. Each dream would cover some part of her life with James. Some new aspect of what could have been. Each time she was forced to live through it, she’d feel more and more at home being with James.
And through it all, Jane was missing.
Oh, she saw her occasionally. She’d be in with other heroines working on team ups or solutions to problems that had popped up. Sometimes she’d even be helping them in battles that none of them could fight alone. But importantly, she wasn’t around whenever she had off-time.
Night after night, Alicia would go to sleep in an empty bed and wake up with that bed still empty. And every time, she’d feel less and less like she wanted Jane in that bed and more and more that she wanted James there.
And all of it had come to a head tonight.
The one thing that was the same about all of these dreams was that none of them were particularly erotic. They were just snapshots of a life she could have had. Taking the kids to school. Celebrating birthdays and anniversaries. But tonight was different. Tonight was their wedding night.
She was in a hotel room, dressed up in sexy white wedding lingerie. At the moment she was lying in bed taking on a sexy pose as she waited for James to finish his shower. She didn’t have to wait long. James walked out, with nothing but a towel to cover his delicates. With nothing else in the way Alicia could appreciate his toned muscles and rock hard abs, clear evidence of the sheer amount of work he’d put into keeping himself in top shape.
As he looked over at her she saw him smile. That smile that was just so....James. As he approached her his towel slipped to the floor and she could now see his erect penis, proof of how turned on she’d made him, pointed directly at her.
She’d seen it before of course. Just last year when they’d had a small party to celebrate finally getting an HQ of their own. She’d pantsed him in front of the entire team. James had been embarrassed. Ball Buster had been apoplectic. Jane had been surprisingly appreciative. Alicia had just laughed uproariously. She’d thought it was funny.
She didn’t think it was funny now.
What happened next though, surprised her. Instead of crawling onto the bed to ravage her, he sat down at the edge and beckoned her over to him. Curious, she crawled herself over and sat down on his lap, leaning her back onto his chest.
James for his part wrapped his hands around her, placing them onto her stomach. “You know you don’t have to do this,” He told her.
“What?” Alicia blurted out, still somewhat stuck in her dream persona.
“This is a dream Alicia. Neither of us are really here. You need to fight it.”
That did it. Alicia snapped back to reality. But something didn’t make sense. “Why are you helping me?”
“Think about it. Think back to our real lives together. Who was the first person you came out to and what did I say?”
“You told me to never apologize for being me.”
“Exactly. Let’s not forget I’m the one who encouraged you to keep trying to win Jane over. Tartarus, I was the best man for BOTH of you at your wedding. Now tell me, does that sound like the sort of person who would want you to turn into some sort of love slave?”
“No.”
“So why are you doing it.”
Alicia thought hard about it. “It’s because...”
And then she figured it out. “Because it’s not what you want. It’s what I think you want.”
“Exactly. You think I’m still carrying a torch for you...”
“You are still carrying a torch for me,” she interrupted.
“Regardless, it’s making you change yourself into someone who will love me back. But that’s not what I really want. What I want is for you and Jane to find your happiness together, even if it isn’t with me.”
Jane. It hurt thinking about her. Especially right now. She’d needed her and she hadn’t been there. Sure she’d been busy trying to find some way to fix all of this, but still she should have made some time for them. Especially since....she knows how important it is right now for them to keep their wills strong.
And then, something horrible clicked in her mind.
“Something’s going wrong. I can feel it, Alicia. You’re changing and I can’t stop it.”
Of course he couldn’t. Something deep inside of her was breaking, because she somehow knew.
Jane had known this was going to happen, and helped it along.
How long had she known? How long before she decided not to fight it, but help it?
The feeling of abject betrayal seeped into her, and somewhere deep inside, some core piece of herself, something fundamental broke.
And something else seeped into to heal the cracks.
She felt him then. James. His chest on her back. His penis, hot and hard, nuzzled in between her butt cheeks. And his hands. His hands were on her stomach. In the proper place, not touching anything he shouldn’t be.
But that wasn’t where she wanted his hands.
Alicia reached down, gently grabbing his hands, and pulled them up until they were cupping her breasts.
“Alicia, you need to stop.”
“It’s okay James. I want this.” As she said this, she turned herself around so she could fully face him, her hands reaching back to snap the hook of her bra, allowing it to fall to the floor, releasing her breast to James’ view.
“It’s funny,” she said to him. “All this time, you’d always put my happiness first. Even now, when you could easily have everything you could ever want, you’re still trying to put me first. Well now I can finally love you the way you’ve always deserved.”
“Alicia...”
She never got to find out what he was going to say, because before he could say it, she kissed him, her tongue reaching in to tangle with his. For a brief moment, it felt like James would try to push her away, then something inside him changed and instead he reached back and put his hands on her butt, pushing her into him.
She leaned forward then, forcing him to lean back further until he fell backwards onto the bed, Alicia on top of him. She pulled back from the kiss then to give him a smile full of heat as she reached down and pulled her panties out of the way. James for his part, reached down and helped position his penis directly over her vagina. Then, with a look of pure hunger, Alicia dropped her waist, impaling herself on his cock all the way to the base.
It should have hurt. She’d had little preparation, not to mention never having put anything the size of a cock into her pussy before. But as James had reminded her, this was a dream, so nothing had to hurt unless she wanted it to. So instead of pain, she had pleasure. A pleasure so great, it made her cum instantly.
As she screamed in orgasm, James rolled over, repositioning himself on top of her. As he looked her directly in the eyes, he began to thrust.
Alicia humped him back, timing her thrusts for maximum impact. As she did this she also wrapped her legs around him, partially to bring him in closer, but mostly because she was afraid that he’d pull out before he could come inside of her.
And she wanted him to come inside of her. By the goddesses, she wanted him to breed her.
Finally it happened. She felt him shudder before suddenly his back arched and he came, his seed bursting inside of her, fertilizing her. Just the thought of it made her cum all over again.
Afterwards he rolled over, lying on his back as he tried to catch his breath. Seeing him like that, Alicia pulled herself up as she moved over, putting her face directly in front of his crotch.
There it was. The monster that had made her a woman. The cock that had fucked her straight. It was covered now in combination of his cum and her love juices. Instinctively she began to lick his cock clean. “Oh goddesses, Alicia,” he moaned.
“It’s okay baby, let me take care of this for you,” she told him. After all, the dream wasn’t over yet. He’d spent years pleasing her in every way that truly mattered. Now she had all night to learn how to please her man.
She found Fire by the kitchen. Pam was busy getting started on breakfast. Fire, for her part, was nursing a cup of coffee. “I hope you’re happy,” Alicia told her, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
“What’s wrong?” Fire asked her, her tone implying that she already knew the answer, but that she still had to play this thing out to completion.
“Stop playing dumb, you’ve already won.”
“What’s going on,” Pamela interjected, genuinely concerned about both of them.
“Well Fire, do you want to tell her or should I?”
Fire took a deep breath before responding. “I think it’s best if you tell her.”
“What’s going on is that Fire here, set us all up.”
“What do you mean? And why are you calling her Fire?”
“I’m calling her Fire because she doesn’t deserve for me to call her by her real name anymore. Because instead of trying to help us get everything back to normal, she’s been trying to make us break faster. And guess what, she succeeded.”
“You mean...?” Fire asked.
“Yeah, I love James now. I want to marry him. Tartarus, I want to have his babies. But you know what else I am now? Straight. I’m not attracted to you anymore. I certainly don’t love you anymore.”
Fire looked hurt as she said that, not that Alicia cared one bit about her feelings. “But despite how I feel about James I’m still utterly furious with you for doing this to me. So before I cut you out of my life entirely I need to know. Why did you do it?”
Fire looked at her, her eyes moist with unshed tears. “You don’t understand. The only order James ever gave you you were going to do anyway. You can’t know what it’s like, having to obey, even when you don’t want to.”
Alicia’s eyes widened in growing horror as she realized just what Fire was saying. What she said implied something terrible, something she didn’t want to think was possible. But still she had to ask. She had to know.
Pamela beat her to the punch.
“Jane, darling, what did James order you to do?”
Jane looked at them both, tears falling uncontrollably as she whimpered, “He told me not to make him wait too long.”
